What are Heritage Open Days?
Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture.
The events must be free to enter and if it somewhere is already free to enter should offer something out of the ordinary, for example, having volunteer stewards to greet visitors and answer questions, put on some activities or a competition or invite other groups to showcase their work – eg artists, choirs, local societies and clubs.
What are we planning?
The optional theme of architecture is broad and wide and Heritage Open Days suggest these ideas to consider:
Who built the structures around us? Why were they built? How were they built? What impact have they had?
We have lots of plans, documents, newspaper cuttings and programmes about the Memorial Hall itself to exhibit but we are especially keen to showcase the community the hall serves, particularly, but certainly not exclusively, past and present users of the hall.
What can I do?
We are aiming to encourage and accommodate as many ideas and contributions as possible so please contact [email protected] or fill out this form
Some ideas:
· Showcase what your group or organisation does (on a stand or a performance/ demonstration/talk at time through the day)
· Loan objects or artefacts to exhibit
· Share written memories or photographs (these can be scanned ahead of time, so you retain the originals)
· Share your culture or heritage, wherever you or your family originate from

What about costs?
There will be not a charge to exhibit, and you can collect donations if your organisation is registered to do so (ie. a charity). Hopefully organisations will benefit from the publicity
Unfortunately, we don’t qualify for the mini grants offered by Heritage Open Days so we can’t directly support organisations financially but if this is your barrier let us know and we can discuss alternative funding sources.
