Part of national Heritage Open Days 2025 (12-21 September) (https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/)
A showcase of a remarkable building, celebrating the stories of its uses and users. There will be exhibitions of its changing life and structure, the chance to go backstage and live performances, including a vintage vocalist, throughout the day.
From its origins as a centre for public entertainment with reading rooms and a rifle range, to its service as a V.A.D hospital during World War I, the hall has stood as a silent witness to our Henley's history. Renovated after World War II as a memorial to those who served, it has been the cherished home of Merrydays Montessori School and Henley Drama Society, amongst others, since the 1950s.
The hall has hosted countless celebrations, meetings, and milestones that have shaped our community's story. Join us for this special day as we recognise the rich history of this building and celebrate the dedicated custodians and patrons who have enjoyed and cared for this hall for over a century.
Come and discover the stories within the walls, there may be some local (and not so local!) names you recognise and we’d love for you to share your memories too. There will be something for all the family to get involved in. The hall is easily accessible by bus or train (5 minute walk) and after a visit to the hall you can enjoy the heritage trail around Henley and find out more about the town at the Heritage Centre.
The day will be opened by performers from Henley High School who will share some highlights from their recent school musical, Matilda Jr! and later Vintage Vocalist Amy Price will bring us songs from across the ages. Fresh from a summer of festivals, In for a penne will be serving from the car park and Henley Ice Cream will be on sale.
If you are in a position to sponsor the event please fill out the form or contact us, this would really help us put on amazing free event for the community and those further afield.
